Three times the garden

Date

September 2024

Location

Whiteley, Hampshire

Project type

Design and Project facilitation

Transforming an out-dated and impractical space, to a sanctuary for all.

Previously this garden had a patio that was too small to relax or entertain on (and regularly flooded), almost no planting and an unusable lawn, and the key view from the house was the large shed.

The new design creates a stunning sunken dining area and lounge area, surrounded by ever-changing and scented planting - which will drift through the patio doors of an evening. Steps gently rise through the planting to a lawn for morning coffees, and tucked up under the feature Acer tree, there now hangs a hammock seat accessed with tempting stepping stones, for the little-ones to chill out in with a book when visiting.

To reflect the contemporary country style of the interior, we choose a sophisticated palette of greens, Lymington beige limestone, natural wood, and a soft-yet-structured planting scheme, that offers interest and suprises round every corner, through-out the year.
The design is finished with subtle lighting for enjoyment from indoors as well as out.

Finally - we still have a shed for that all-important storage, but it is neatly tucked in behind the dining area - covered in evergreen jasmine, it is disguised as a beautiful backdrop and is easily accessed.

The garden feels like it has doubled in size, and tripled in use - and homeowner M, is 'absolutely thrilled' with her new spaces.
