Inspiring action - visitor garden

Style

Mixed, Public space

Project type

Location

Warwickshire

The team at WWT wanted to redevelop their gardens at their flagship Brandon Marsh centre, to create a space(s) that will inspire visitors to make their own gardens and community spaces a home for wildlife; supporting 1 in 4 people to take positive action for wildlife.
The new 'Team Wilder Garden' will:
* Help people to re-connect with (and value) nature, in a safe environment.
* Bridge the gap between a wildlife reserve environment and a home garden space.
* Highlight the practical, affordable steps people can take to support species such as Hedgehogs, pollinator insects and garden birds.
* Create a safe and inspiring space for education and community activities – sharing the benefits of learning and being outdoors.
By:
* Providing ideas that people can easily visualise taking home to their own gardens/ outside spaces, and that they can easily implement at home/ school etc.
* Demonstrating that aesthetics and social space don’t have to be sacrificed, to support wildlife.
* Showing that increased biodiversity – is increased interest.

The new space features multiple different garden settings packed with ideas, which appear like and can be used as potential residential gardens - from the planting and hardscape to the furnishings - and are designed to appeal to different aesthetics, offering ideas for every-home.
